"Right after I was born on the side of the road, my umbilical cord got infected, and there was nothing my mother or I could do. In this condition, and getting weaker by the day, it wasn't going to be long before I died. I could feel myself slipping away, bit by bit.

Luckily, a woman who feeds all of us stray cows in my herd saw me in trouble and called Peepal Farm. 

A man came in a small truck, and found me with blood and pus dripping from my abdomen. I was pretty frightened of him, and my mom was too. I stayed close to her, not sure what was coming next.

But once I reached Peepal Farm, they removed the maggots and cleaned me up. For the first time in my week of life, I was no longer in pain. I no longer felt like I was dying.

That same woman who noticed me - when everyone else just walked past - agreed to let me recover at her house, with my mother. My new friends at Peepal Farm still visit me every day for treatment, and I get a safe place to recover and stay close to my mom. What a luxury for a stray calf like me!"
