When you think of a horse, depending on where you stand, you might think of beauty, grace, or their capactiy to work hard. If you are kind, you might also think of the burden they have to carry. But there is no way for you to know the true weight of the burden we carry. A horse's prayer is not for a lighter burden, but a kinder treatment.

We work long hours, on construction sites and on steep mountain sides without food breaks, water, or rest. But what ends up killing is cruelty and neglect. We are beaten regularly, and we get wounds from badly made metal harnesses.

In my case, the injuries came from a metal "bit" placed in my mouth to control me. I got a wound in my mouth, and my "owner" (as much as a human trafficker owns their victim) didn't care. My wound got maggots. My owner did not care. I could feel the death crawling in my mouth.

I wanted to run free once in my life before dying, but I was always tied...except when left "free" on the streets to go rummage through garbage for food. Even then the two of our legs are tied tightly with a rope. So this last time, I made a run for it ... the rope was so tight that it cut into my skin, and finally I collapsed near a dried up stream.

A girl from the village gently walked me to Peepal Farm, where I spent my last few days. Don't donate to them for me, as I am dead ... and next time you are on a vacation, think of me before paying any one who is abusing other animals. Whether its mules on hikes, horses to carry you up the mountains, elephant rides, or animals in captivity in the entertainment parks ... they are all suffering and dying, like I did.
